Going Natural 2 and the Stompernet SMARTS Community
This was found on the scribd blog yesterday:
"Due to recent abuse by Internet marketers, we have discontinued support for HTML uploads. We continue to support all our other formats, including PDF, Word, PowerPoint, OpenOffice, PostScript, and many others."
You must have heard of the newest video revealed by stompernet.net. The going natural 2 video gives even more clues on how to ‘exploit’ social networking. I mean nobody who sits in front of his/her computer for most of the day does it because of the pure fun. Semantic web demands that we publish new content every than and when and best all on daily bases, fine. Now why would you want to publish new content and not tell anybody? Would you open a shop on the street and not grab any possibilitiy to advertise your product or service? I remember the time when marketing was done with letters and post stamps, right I feel like Methusalem, but anyway we grabed any free add we could, even if we had to fill it in letter by letter in little boxes by hand for a local newspaper ad. Communication was very limited at this time if we compare with today. With the upraising of the Internet in the early 90′s and that start of Internet Marketing in the mid nintys and Google coming in ’98 all has changed and Internet Marketing became a multi billion dollar business. And now it is happening again. Since two years the social networks have started to change our communication behavior for good. With MySpace having the double amount of visits as Google and Facebook picking up real fast, the plan of the social network sites has worked out better than anybody could ever expect. It was stompernet where i heard the catch phrase "Social Marketing’ for the first time and that’s what it is, social marketing, not social spam and I will tell you why. The Reason Why Social Networking sites are growing so fast is that people find easily what they are looking for, can talk to other people about things they are interested in (that includes things they are about to buy online) and get a chance to express themselves.
Now where does it say that marketing, buying and selling things, is not a big part of everyones social life? Why is this part to be excluded of social networking? Because people advertise their products and services? You must be kiddn’ me. Thats what people live from that’s what they work for, feed their families and buy their cars with. Right stompernet has explained some ways one could exploit. In my eyes social networking websites are a great place to tell a lot of people not only about what you’ve been eating for dinner yesterday and where – (If you’d add a link to the restaurant’s website you could get sacked – at least at scribd) but also of what you are doing for a living. And if that is buying and selling products what happens to be the worlds biggest business community, than so be it. If you have a website or a product why should’n you be telling everybody? That is social networking in it’s finest.
Everybody is selling something on one stage or another. Now, excluding this process from social networking in a manner like scribd did, by banning html itself, can’t be the solution. I’m also not a fan of spammers or site crackers, that are the once who implement codes to other peoples websites. Codes that fill up a whole content management system with links to porn sites and pharmacy rubbish, but i am well aware that back links are needed today. So who gets what in social networking?
- My Data – When i go to social networking website like scribd, i got to sign up
- New Content Source – Than i gotto write something to make myself appear
- More Content and Information – I set up my profile picture and some more private and contact information
- More Visitors - now I got to tell all my friends about my new account so they come and see
- More Users - Now if I want to communicate with my friends due to this network i have to personally persue my friends to join in
- Steady Flow of new Content – I now ad articles to my blog or whatever superwall or my friends i brought do, they get new content, unique content.
- Advertising Revenue – Me and all my friend will sure in the month and years to com click a couple of ads so the site gets money from advertisers
- Wealth – Pure and Simple – My friends now also have brought friends meanwhile and they brought their friends and colleagues and they also click on ads and provide daily new content.
And what do i get in return? Nothing! Since my social network is refusing me some back links to my business. The one thing that makes the money roll that allows me to sit in front of this computer and type all that new content and click on things to buy and that gives me the time for socializing on that network. Now, I ask ‘What’s the fuzz about?’ Who is going to be hurt from those links I set in my articles? They all lead to more information about the very same topic. Who’s money or freedom or rights do i break or take by doing so? If the social network sites get too gready, it’s time to move on, and don’t forget to pack your suitcase before you go. Punish punishment with punishment.
I don’t have to metion that this article is written because of the hardcore reaction of scribd. There are many more social networking sites out there where you can feel at home, add what you like and therefore find what you are looking for. (because others where able to ad their content too) Refusing links to related content is not what semantic web is about and it couldn’t even function for a single day if we all did that.
Now i hear some people say ‘wouh cool reaction’ ‘good so’ – hey there are Internet Marketers and there are spammers and we don’t stop right now to through them in the same bucket, we are about to destroy the whole idea of social networking. Other Solutions and Different Views on Social Marketing There is a new site capturing my attention at the moment, it is called Yuwie. One of the new and fast upraising social networks. Yuwie Actually PAYS its Users to utilize the site. See that’s what i’m talking about. Social Marketing and Social Networking in perfect harmony. Yuwie is totally free and is essentially the same as any other network but it gives back a portion of it’s advertising revenue to reward its members, much like hubpages do. The system is based on page views. Every time you view a profile, even if it is your own, or add new content or send a message it will count. Cash flowing right in your pocket. It might not be enough to by a new car right away, but at least you want get banned for helping to grow the network and make them money. Whenever someone else views your profile or pictures it also counts. Yuwie is not much different from Facebook only here you get paid for being there and delivering content.
Now that is not all, Yuwie also pay you for referrals from your website. You earn up to 10% and that through 10 levels down. Yuwie got 425,526 members when i was looking today and is growing rapidly by approx. 2500 members per day. (51,781 during the past 20 days) I strongly recommend to take advantage of this opportunity.
