Are your Google Adsense Earnings down?

Many theories are flying around in the Internet at the moment. It seems that 55% of the webmaster community report heavy losses on their Adsense accounts. The other 45 percent of the community report no changes and in some few cases even a slight raise on earnings. To me this looks like a flue and i hope they find a cure soon because the Adsense flue seems just to have reached my account. When i checked this morning, my Adsense earnings where down by 50%! Now, there i start getting worried. Even though i don’t have all my eggs in one basket, it still hurts.

Now where ever something happens there are roumors and theories. This one i like best: Google has reported a 30% increase in AdSense clicks over the last quarter 2006, and a 9% increase since the third quarter 2007. But even though the clicks are up, revenues for publishers seem to go down.

Google also reported a 34% increase in AdSense revenues over the last quarter 2007 and a 12% increase quarter after quarter. The interesting part is that Googles traffic acquisition cost, the portion of revenue shared with Google AdSense publishers, went up only 1%. Google controls 77% of the search market and 75% of the search advertising spend and they report consistent growth. Maybe they are saving up to buy Microsoft now; the perfect "All in One" package. 

But seriously, i still think it’s a flue. Going over my several websites after i discovered the downfall in my Adsense account, i found that besides of the front page, where everything seems to be alright, only very few if at all, ad boxes where shown. Some pages showed ads after refreshing the page 3 times but many pages don’t show ads at all. Nothing, not one, not even charity ads. I checked the source code and everything is fine. Google just seems to reduce the number of times ads are shown. Doing this on purpose wouldn’t make sense at all, given the numbers above. So i do the same as everybody; wait and see what happens. Google is in the position to do whatever they want anyway. No competition on the horizon and the only competition that could be counted for is just about to be swallowed by giant number two. Does anybody here see the big picture? There will be only two companies left who will pocess all the computer power of the world. And i’m afraid that this will not be a most harmonic relationship.

What is it that makes the Difference?

It actually is more than just just where to place your ads on your website or blog. It is also very important how your ads look compared with the rest of your website or blog. Many people follow the Google advice to make your ads shine out with different colors to attract visitors to click on them. They should know better by now. We are no insects that get attracted by bright looking colors, the opposite, we are very shy humans who have become very selective in our desicion to click on a link or not. Nobody really wants to click on a link to end up on a cheap one page website, and that is exactly where many of the Google ads end up. That is a fact even though i know that Google is activly fighting this by charging more for ad positions that lead to a one page site than if the ad leads to an informative website. If the website or blog is equiped with all the tiny bits and pieces that Google loves so much and that help Google to deliever relevant content to searches ,the Adword ads become cheaper. The four vital things you MUST provide to get your baloon started are:

1. A Privacy Policy Statement
2. A Disclaimer - Terms and Conditions
3. A Contact Page - Form or e-mail Address
4. A Site Map - Submitted to Google

If you have done those four things you will immidiately see your income grow and that is simply because Google will start serving higher paying ads to your website or blog. Imagine that for every click you recieve right now and earn 3 -7 cents per click, you would get 20 - 80 cents per click. That would tenfold your income at once wouldn’t it?

But why stop there and not improve your click through rate (CTR) at the same time? This can easily be done by ignoring Google’s advice i mentioned above. Make your ads look like they are a part of your site. Here is how it’s done:

• Make them look exactly the same like your other links on the site.
• Choose the exact link colors and text colors you use for the rest of the page where you place your ad.
• Make wise desicions on what ad to use where. Split test it over and over.
• Never let your ads look like ads. Integrate them in your text.
• Justify the text around your ads

Welcome to McHow2’s Blog (Again)….

Welcome to the blog where you can learn how to make things happen, find ideas for webdesign or affiliate marketing, Google AdSense or Google AdWords tips and tricks and many many other related issues.

… But first things first. I just had a very, very bad experience with my WordPress blog. Last night I wrote the last article here on my blog. This morning it was gone…. not only my article from yestyerday was gone but - EVERYTHING! - The only thing reminding on my blog was the template settings of the sidebar. All posts where gone, all pages where gone, all categories went the same way… wherever that might be. Instead i have the default post and comment and my blog screems “Hello World”. All plugins are also there and still activated just as i left it behind yesterday. So my first lesson should be: Bckup! Don’t forget to backup your files and your database. It just can’t be stressed out enough.

Who is …. McHow2?

Someone once called me “Mc HowTo” because i always found the right answer to the weirdest kind of questions. Yep research is a good thing and I spend a good part of the day practicing. That is the reason why i had the idea to start my own blog. I was not much of a blogger up to than, but I thought that it actually is a pitty that all the valuable information I gather all day long should only be available to me. And the next Webmaster or Internet Marketer who has exactly the same question has to do the whole reasearch all over again.

Setting up my Blog in WordPress

So I went on my search where to setup a blog and how to. I already have another blog running for our software company where we develop custom made software for hotels and dive resorts — I have to say it, Award Winning Software for Hotels and Dive Resorts –, that i had setup years ago, and it is a WordPress blog. So it was the nearest tthing to do, setting up another WordPress blog. My web hosting server providesFantastico, a cool collection of software tools, and WordPress was one of them. So with a view clicks i was set to go. I downloaded one of the many free templates and with the click of only one single button i had my site looking just as i want it. I hope that was not too much honey for WordPress, but those guys sometimes deserve some credit for the great job they do. And in the spirit of the day, a happy and successfull 2008.

Up’s and Downs in Internet Marketing

Not everything that shines is gold though, for sure not in online business. There are many programs out there that promise you the blue right out of the sky and how you can make money online quck and easy. Follow up and all you get is an old cup with a whole in the bottom.
